Uproar Continues in Lok Sabha after Pragya Thakur’s Apology
After BJP MP Pragya Thakur issued an apology for her remarks on Tuesday, the uproar continued in the Lok Sabha. Congress demanded an unqualified apology, while BJP MP slammed Congress for forming government in Maharashtra with Shiv Sena, who called Godse the biggest Patriot back in 2013.
“Not only have this nation but the world followed principles of Mahatma Gandhi. We shouldn’t politicize this issue (BJP MP Pragya Thakur referring to Nathuram Godse as ‘deshbhakt’ in LS). If we do, it’ll be before the world. So I said that the remarks won’t be recorded,” Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said amidst the chaos in the house.
“This House doesn’t permit to glorify the matter of assassination of Mahatma Gandhi whether in this House or outside. Yesterday the Defence Minister clarified on behalf of the government. The MP (Pragya Singh Thakur) has apologized too,” the Speaker further added.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that remarks of Pragya Thakur are “an egregious breach of the basic standard of conduct of a member.”
“You(LS Speaker)said that remarks (by BJP’s Pragya Thakur) aren’t in records. It’s an egregious breach, goes against the basic standard of conduct of a member. The member should categorically say that Godse isn’t a ‘deshbhakt’, he’s a terrorist & murderer of Gandhi,” the MP from Hyderabad said.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey demanded to bring privilege motion against former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi for calling BJP MP Pragya Thakur a ‘terrorist’. On Wednesday Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Terrorist Pragya calls terrorist Godse, a patriot. A sad day, in the history of India’s Parliament.”0 Replies to “Uproar Continues in Lok Sabha after Pragya Thakur’s Apology”
