BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde Describes Mahatma Gandhi’s Freedom Struggle as ‘Drama’
Former Union Minister and BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde struck again with controversial remarks, this time he has described freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi a “drama.” The Lok Sabha MP from Uttara Kannada was speaking at a public event in Bengaluru on Saturday. He alleged that the freedom movement was “staged with the consent and support of the British”.
“None of these so-called leaders were beaten up by the cops even once. Their independence movement was one big drama. It was staged by these leaders with the approval of the British. It was not a genuine fight. It was an adjustment freedom struggle,” Hegde stated on Saturday.
“People supporting Congress keep saying that India got independence because of the fast unto death and satyagraha. This is not true. The British did not leave the country because of satyagraha. Britishers gave independence out of frustration. My blood boils when I read history. Such people become Mahatma in our country,” the BJP MP further added.
Congress leader Jaiveer Shergill slammed Hegde for his remarks. He urged BJP to change its name to Nathuram Godse Party.
“Mahatma Gandhi does not want a certificate of patriotism from the party that was the flatterer of the Britishers, Anant Hegde comes from an organization that opposed the Tricolor, opposed the Constitution, who opposed the Quit India movement,” Jaiveer Shergill said.
“As the number of Godse devotees is increasing in BJP, BJP should change its name to Nathu Ram Godse Party,” the Congress leader further added.0 Replies to “BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde Describes Mahatma Gandhi’s Freedom Struggle as ‘Drama’”
