Ajit Pawar Resigns as Deputy-CM of Maharashtra
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has resigned from the post, just a day before the floor test ordered by the Supreme Court. He has allegedly submitted his resignation to the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.
On November 23, in a major turn of events, Devendra Fadnavis of BJP took oath as CM, while Ajit Pawar was sworn in as his deputy at the Raj Bhavan, Mumbai. This step blindsided the alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, who filed a petition against this move in the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court in its verdict ordered a Floor Test to be conducted in Maharashtra Assembly on November 27. The voting on the floor will be carried out via an open secret ballot and will be telecasted live. The Apex court has also ordered that Pro-tem Speaker be appointed before 5 pm November 27, to conduct the Floor Test.
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said that NDA doesn’t have the majority in Maharashtra Assembly, but has full faith in Ajit Pawar that he will rope in his supporters before the floor test.
“We respect the Supreme Court’s order of carrying out a floor test tomorrow. NDA doesn’t have the majority yet, I am sure we will get it by tomorrow as we trust Ajit Pawar that he will bring his MLAs,” Athawale said.0 Replies to “Ajit Pawar Resigns as Deputy-CM of Maharashtra”
