1 Injured as a Man Opens Fire At Anti-CAA Protesters near Jamia

An unidentified opened fired at protesting students at the Jamia Milia Islamia area on Thursday. The students were staging protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). A student has been reported injured in the firing and has been admitted to the trauma center of the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The incident took place when the protestors started marching towards Rajghat to protest against CAA and NRC. The accused was seen shouting “Yeh lo aazadi (here’s your freedom)” at the protesters. The culprit was taken into custody by the Delhi Police.

Protests have continued all across India after CAA was passed by the Parliament in December last year. The CAA fast tracks the process of acquiring Indian Citizenship for non-Muslim minorities who came to India on or before 31st December 2014, from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Countrywide protests have continued since the passage of the law by the Parliament.
